New Store and Micro Mill in Cape Town | Grand Opening
We live in a world where, quite often, the end product is so divorced from the manufacturing process that we really have no idea where the things we buy actually come from. At Mungo we have always felt that it is important for our customers to be able to make that connection. We want to bridge the gap between the market and the maker, and to introduce people to the wonderful world of weaving.
It was from this desire that the idea of our new store and Micro Mill evolved. We wanted to create an experiential space where our customers can see, first hand, how our products are made. We want to give everyone the opportunity to learn a little about the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into weaving.
About a year ago number 78 Hout Street, a beautiful four-story 19th century heritage building, came into Mungo family hands (or at least family-in-law) and it seemed obvious that this would become that space. After many months of renovations and refurbishments we are finally open to the public.
Last Thursday we celebrated this with a grand opening. Thank you to everyone that made it, the energy was great and Hattie was the star of the show…as usual. We could not be happier in this new space, situated in the heart of Cape Town, near some of the best coffee shops and restaurants in town. Our neighbours have been wonderful, welcoming us with coffees and flowers and the most impressive carrot cake I have ever seen (thank you Mr Fox from CD Fox next door).
We are open on Weekdays from 9am to 5pm and on Saturdays from 9am to 2pm.
