Mungo on Hout Street…Coming Soon
There are a number of new and exciting ventures on the horizon at Mungo. One of them is the move of our Cape Town store in Bo Kaap to the new Mungo Building at 78 Hout Street; situated between Loop and Bree St. right in the heart of the First Thursday district.
No 78 is a four story, Cape Town heritage building that was previously an architecture studio and office. It was built in 1900 and still has the original architectural character; beautiful high ceilings, gleaming wooden floors and ornate staircase.
The ground floor will be the Mungo retail space which will hold a full selection of the Mungo range. This will be above the basement workshop, with windows looking up onto Hout Street. This will be Mungo’s very own inner city micro mill – a space where innovative and contemporary woven textile design meets traditional manufacturing processes on our restored antique loom.
We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our cherished, hundred year old Hattersley loom, otherwise known as ‘Hattie’ who will take residence at Mungo on Hout Street and everyone will get the chance to see her in action.
Renovations are underway and moving smoothly. We aim to open in May.
Details on our grand opening coming soon…

I just love your towels. My mother in law who was German used to weave her own linen towels. My husband refuses to use any other towels, so I was so happy to find your towels to have some colour in our bathroom?
