Sewing Seeds: Mungo Staff Development Workshop
At Mungo we are driven by more than profit. In fact we join a growing number of movements worldwide which, inspired by international B Corp certification, hold at their core the triple bottom line: people, planet and profit. In accordance with this, we aim to work symbiotically with the environment in which we exist, which means making consistent and conscious decisions about how we operate and how we can use our leverage to empower the community in which we exist.
This led us to start our very own Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, MOVE in 2018 – through which we donate 1% of our annual turnover towards projects that uplift the people of the Plettenberg Bay community, where our mill and production process is based.
In keeping with this initiative, we offer staff development workshops. These workshops are aimed at up-skilling our team in areas that they have suggested and identified. The courses are free of charge, take place on Saturday mornings and run over a six week period.
In August we began our first staff development workshop, a beginner sewing course under the guidance of Shirley Joseph. 12 members of the Mungo team joined the staff workshop, and learnt about various sewing processes – from understanding textiles and fabrics, getting to grips with a sewing machine and right down to the nitty gritty of seams, hems, fasteners, finishings are more.
By the end of the course, the 12 participants will have made made a cushion cover to donate to one of our charities, and an apron for themselves to take home. Keep your eyes on our feed for updates on the finished product.

Lee-ann Joubert
Good day I trust this message finds you well. Am interested in your Sewing workshops do you perhaps still do them? And is it open to the public?
Georgina Selander
Hi Le-ann
Unfortunately our sewing workshops were held for our staff only – we run certain self and skill development classes for our team, and sewing was one we held a while back.
Hoping you find something in your area! 🙂
Best,
Mungo
