The Benefits of Bamboo
What if we told you that bamboo takes in around five times as much greenhouses gasses as timber trees and releases 35% more oxygen back out into the atmosphere… Incredible right!? This amazing natural resource doesn’t require replanting, pesticides or fertilisers and because its roots hold on to water in the watershed, bamboo is also kind to riverbanks and reduces water pollution. Basically, all you need for bamboo to grow successfully is a bit of good ol’ natural rainfall.
But wait, it gets even better! The bamboo used to create fabrics is in fact the fastest growing plant in the world, with the ability to grow 122cm per day. This incredible growth rate means that bamboo comes in first place in the renewable resource race. Basically, it just grows and grows and grows… and then grows some more!
As versatile as it is sustainable, it can be found growing naturally just about everywhere – from cold mountains to hot tropical regions. This means we don’t need to clear forest-lands to grow it.
Lastly, bamboo is hand picked rather than harvested by machines, again lowering its impact on the environment!
With its soft and smooth texture, bamboo provides exceptional comfort. Compared to other fibres, bamboo-based fabrics are more breathable and help regulate body temperature Bamboo is ultra-absorbent and excellent at wicking away liquid from the skin.
Bamboo fabrics have also been shown to boast certain anti-bacterial/anti-fungal properties. This means that they are less likely to retain mildew or odours, and less likely to cause skin irritations.
