General
What does ‘Mungo’ mean?
Mungo is an old textile term that refers to taking old scrap yarns (mainly wool) and fibres and weaving them into something new. Although it is not applicable to Mungo in the literal sense of the word, all of the looms at the mill have been carefully restored, retro fitted and re-purposed – old looms weaving something contemporary and new. You pronounce it like the fruit Mango. But swop the ‘a’ for a ‘u’. Rhymes with Bungalow!
Logistics
How long does shipping take?
For main centres in South Africa shipping takes 2–3 working days. Outlying areas take 3–5 working days. We only use couriers, so your parcel can be tracked and delivered to your door. Tracking details will be included in your order processing confirmation email.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship worldwide. Customs duties and clearance fees vary by country and are payable by you. International deliveries may take 5–14 working days. If you’re in a remote area and concerned, drop us a mail.
If you’re shopping from the US or EU, you can also order through our regional online stores. The product range may vary slightly.

How do import fees work?
We complete all export/import forms. Once the parcel reaches your country, the courier will contact you with details of any fees. Once paid, your parcel will be released from customs and delivered.
What is your returns policy?
We typically accept returns within 30 days if items are unused, in their original condition, and have labels attached. Returns are accepted on purchases made either online or through a Mungo store. Refunds are processed within 5–7 working days using the original payment method, and exchanges can be made in-store or by courier. If we organise the courier, there is a R150 resending fee. If you arrange your own courier, there is no fee. To arrange a return, simply contact us at hello@mungo.co.za and we’ll guide you through the process.
What should I do if my item is damaged?
We pride ourselves on a strong commitment to quality, with every product undergoing rigorous inspection and quality control. If you believe you’ve received a faulty item, please email hello@mungo.co.za with your order details, the date of purchase (via invoice or receipt), a short description of the issue, and supporting photos. Having proof of purchase helps us trace the history of your order — without it, we may not be able to track the batch, particularly if it was bought through a third-party or has since gone out of range. Our customer service team will guide you with a few questions, and if needed, the item can be sent either to your nearest Mungo store or couriered to our HQ in Plettenberg Bay. From there, our production team will inspect the item and advise the best way forward. Please note that the timing of your purchase plays an important role in how we can resolve the matter, but each case is always handled with care and fairness.
Can I cancel an online order?
Yes, if the order hasn’t been dispatched. If it has, you’ll need to return the goods in good order.

Do you export to international stores / wholesale?
Yes – we do supply select international stores. To apply, please contact our Trade & Wholesale department with a link to your website and where you reside. All requests are reviewed to ensure alignment with our brand and values.
I have a Decorators Account with Mungo. Can I use it to purchase at any of the Mungo stores?
Yes. Trade sales can be facilitated from our stores, but this facility must be pre-arranged with the Plettenberg Bay Wholesale and Trade team at our HQ in Plettenberg Bay (woven@mungo.co.za) so that your company details can be captured on our store POS system. Your account will need to be verified on our system by the shop sales assistant before any trade purchase can be made.
Website
Why do prices look different in South Africa compared to abroad?
Our prices adjust depending on where you are shopping from:
South Africa (www.mungo.co.za): Prices include VAT with free shipping on all orders over R1500. If you are ordering from outside South Africa, shipping will be calculated at checkout and website prices exclude VAT, but you will be responsible for paying import duties when your order arrives. These duties vary from country to country (usually between 8–30%) and depend on the order value and your country’s trade relationship with South Africa. If you’re unsure, we recommend checking your country’s import regulations before ordering. Note: If you’re browsing locally in South Africa but using a foreign IP address, you may see VAT-exclusive prices. The correct VAT will automatically be applied at checkout once you enter a South African shipping address.
Europe (www.mungo.co) and USA (www.mungo.us): We have fulfilment centres in both regions. Prices on these sites are fixed to account for duties and imports, and shipping is faster.
I didn’t receive my voucher, what should I do?
Vouchers are emailed automatically after purchase. Sometimes they land in the spam or promotions folder, especially for Gmail users, so please check there first. The email will come from Mungo Design.
If you still can’t find it, let us know and we’ll resend it to you. If you placed your order over a weekend or public holiday and paid via EFT, the system may only process once we’re back in office.
Do you offer discounts?
We don’t offer discounts as part of our everyday values and pricing model. At Mungo, we believe in setting fair and consistent prices all year round. The best way to be the first to hear about special news and events is to sign up for our newsletter at www.mungo.co.za/#got-news.
Fabric
How do I care for my Mungo products?
Most Mungo products can be machine washed on a gentle cycle with mild detergent and no bleach, then air dried. Natural fibres take well to a warm iron, while special items like mohair/silk scarves need hand washing in cool water or professional dry cleaning. Full details can be found at www.mungo.co.za/care-guide/.
Do you sell fabric by the metre?
We don’t sell fabric by the metre, as most of our designs aren’t offered in cut lengths, but a limited selection is available at our annual sale, which is kept off-site.
Do you do custom sizes?
Sometimes. It depends on the product. Some items cannot be altered, others can. Custom requests are handled via HQ (retail@mungo.co.za).
Do you offer dyeing services?
We don’t offer fabric dyeing services, as our colours are created using pre-dyed yarns, though we’re happy to suggest an alternative within our range.
Events & Media
Do you run Black Friday specials?
At Mungo, we don’t run Black Friday promotions.
Our commitment is to fair pricing year-round, reflecting the true cost of our natural fibres and ethical production.
We do, however, occasionally offer limited promotions or end-of-range sales at other times of the year. We also host an annual Tent Sale every February, with discounts on end-of-range, sample, and slightly imperfect items.
If you’d like to stay in the loop, feel free to sign up for our newsletter or follow us on Instagram for updates.
When is your annual factory sale?
Our annual factory sale usually takes place in February, with exact dates announced on our social media and through our newsletter. The sale includes marked down end-of-range lines and products with minor weaving flaws.
When is the next Swim Club?
Our Swim Club dates are often confirmed close to the event, so the best way to stay updated is through our newsletter.
Do you accept sponsorships, donations, or media collaborations?
Our advertising and sponsorship budgets are set in advance each year, with donations and giving coordinated through our CSR programme, MOVE, which focuses on projects in Plettenberg Bay around ocean awareness, education, and the environment. We receive many thoughtful requests for sponsorships, donations, and media collaborations, and while we do our best to support those that align with MOVE’s ethos and our brand values, we’re unfortunately not able to accommodate them all.
