The Selvedge Serviette includes an array of colourways that can be used either as a set in one colour, or as a ‘mix and match’ selection as originally intended. This quirky idea came from a family holiday, when laundry was not high priority and serviettes were reused for a few evenings in a row. This way, by assigning each family member a colour, no cross contamination and confusion could arise over whose serviette was whose! We think that is pretty neat.
These serviettes are individually woven from pure linen yarn on the restored Ruti shuttle looms. One of the things that differentiates shuttle looms from the more modern rapier looms is their ability to weave true selvedge – a tightly woven ‘self finished’ edge that runs lengthwise along a fabric’s edge. This prevents the fabric from fraying or unraveling.
Attractive, practical and fit for the whole gang.
Mungo sources its linen yarn from an Italian company, Linificio e Canapificio Nazionale – an OEKO-TEX certified supplier that has been in the business of spinning top-quality linen yarn since 1873. Not only does LCN supply us with flax yarn of exceptional quality, but they have an ethos that matches our own – a commitment to ethical and sustainable production.
Like all our products, the Selvedge Serviette is designed, woven and made at the Mungo Mill. Located in Plettenberg Bay, our mill is open to the public. A percentage of each Mungo purchase goes towards our CSR, MOVE, which seeks to empower the community of Plettenberg Bay.
