The iconic kikoi originates in East Africa, soon finding its way across the continent and around the world.

The word itself translates from the Swahili for ‘something to wrap around you’ – denoting the wonderful versatility of the garment. The kikoi can be used as a compact beach towel or breezy sarong, or fashioned into a head wrap, scarf, shawl or baby sling. A most-useful item that makes for the perfect travel companion, or hard-to-go-wrong gift.

Find the South Kikoi, in an array of kaleidoscopic colours. Or the more muted Ruti Kikoi, woven on our antique Ruti looms. Or shop a ‘kikoi for a cause’ – our Kids of Kurland Kikoi, of which the full proceeds go towards funding a much-needed additional teacher at the Crags Primary School in Plettenberg Bay.

Designed, woven and made at the Mungo Mill in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa.

Mungo strongly believes in strengthening our social influence and lessening our environmental impact. That’s why we contribute 1% of our annual turnover to our CSR, MOVE.
